Virtual Reality, ‘Acting Your Age’ — and Calling Out Ageist BS!
Ashley Johnson (AARP), Lisa Bennett, L. Marie Bennett Group, Edna Kane-Williams (AARP), hip hop artist, MC Lyte, actor, Boris Kodjoe, renowned radio personality, Donnie Simpson, Kellye Walton (AARP), Alicia Wallace (AARP), and Karen Chong (AARP), above left, joined AARP and the Disrupt Aging team at the AARP Block Party’s Essence Festival in New Orleans. The main topic: challenging outdated beliefs. Attendees mingled with celebs, struck a pose with empowering words about living and aging, and took a virtual reality hot-air balloon ride.
At the annual BlogHer conference in Orlando, Florida, the Disrupt Aging team hosted a panel discussing “Act Your Age and Other Ageist BS.” Meredith Walker, executive director of Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, and Karen Chong, above right, of the Disrupt Aging team led the discussion exploring the intersection of age and gender in the subtle, and not-so-subtle, forms of ageism found online.
