HARTFORD women are invited to tool up and show the men how it’s done.

Age UK will launch Women in Sheds, which follows on from the charity’s innovative Men in Sheds venture.

Men in Sheds, which runs from Monday to Friday at the Hartford Shed, was launched by Age UK Cheshire in 2008.

It was created for older men who feel isolated or are experiencing major life changes.

The sheds provide the men with a place to share and learn new skills and socialise.

On Friday, January 27, women are invited to an open day at Age UK Cheshire’s shed to kick off the new women’s only venture.

Lucy Welsh, head of services at Age UK Cheshire, said: “The open day will be all about demonstrations, where women can have a go at pen making, learn how to operate the lathe as well as see all the fantastic items made by the men in the sheds including bird tables, benches, pens, shoe horns, and much, much more.

“The open day will also provide the opportunity for women to have a say on what they would like to get out of the shed, what activities they would like to see take place in a women’s shed and what they might be able to bring to the project.”

Once officially launched, Women in Sheds will take place on a weekly basis, in Hartford, offering the same activities as its male equivalent, Men in Sheds. The date is to be confirmed.

The open day will run throughout the day at the Hartford Shed, which is on the Hartford Business Park, Chester Road.

The Hartford Shed is one of four sheds operated by Age UK Cheshire, the others being in Chester, Ellesmere Port and Crewe.

If you are interested in attending the open day, turn up at the shed any time from 10am to 4pm.
